Getting my curriculum for free?  What else can cyber charter schools offer? 
Cyber charter schools are growing around the nation and attracting many homeschoolers.  If this option becomes available in WV, what will we gain?  What will we lose?  The Alliance , a nationwide association of homeschool leaders, has produced a professional and compelling DVD based on what has actually happened in states with charter schools.  In this workshop, we’ll not only view this 30 minute presentation, but we’ll discuss the perceived advantages to cyber schools and what important tenets of homeschooling are involved.  (Everyone is welcome, but Support Group Leaders are urged to attend to receive a copy of the DVD to share with their local groups.)

Educating from Birth to Age 8
Parents are so bombarded with messages about preschool and readiness, that they fear their children are behind before they reach their 4th birthday. Yet how can they be sure they are preparing them academically?  How do they know what to teach to ensure their children are not behind their peers?  In this workshop, we’ll examine the research related to early childhood education, the philosophy pushing K3 and K4, and the Biblical response – which turns out to be the best academic one.

Assessment Options (with Jo Ann Duffield)
Standardized testing and portfolio evaluation are the two most used forms of  annual assessment for West Virginia home schoolers.  If you have questions about assessment options, plan to join Kim Kincell and Jo Ann Duffield as they discuss details of testing and portfolios during this session.
