Who's in Charge Here? (with Hal Young)
One of the most important truths that we can instill in our children is the importance of authority. We must teach them to honor God as  the ultimate authority, to obey their earthly authorities (parents, elders, civil authorities, etc.), and also prepare them to one day become authorities in others lives. In this workshop Hal and Melanie will discuss how we can instill these values in our children and pass them on to future generations.

Someone to Look Up To (with Hal Young)
“Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.” Whom are we surrounding our sons with? What men are we bringing into their lives that they can look up to? Our sons need heroesY4; they need men to model for them what a Christian man thinks and how he acts. This session will discuss how fathers can be these models and how to choose other men that our sons can imitate in their quest to become godly men.

A House Not Divided (with Hal Young)
You’ve heard the verses and caught the vision, but what can you do to get your children on your team? Stop the bickering and rivalry and begin making memories! In this ideapacked workshop, Hal and Melanie will share how to tear down obstacles and build up family unity in fun, memorable ways.

Doing Real Things For Teens and Their Families (with Hal Young)
Our culture tells teens that they are still children, but the Word of God and history show us otherwise. Why wait until you are 18 or 22 or even 25 and done with your education to start doing things that matter? Ready to be an adult? There is no reason teens can’t begin to impact their world just as young adults did throughout history. Come get real life examples and lots of ideas to help you resist the low expectations our society has of your generation and do real things for God and your world.

Raising Real Men
In spite of what the culture is telling us, boys and girls are different.  Have you ever had a war break out in the middle of history, or had a single math lesson take three hours? Then you’re probably raising boys!  If the world seems intent on gender-blending and forcing our sons into a feminized bold, Hal and Melanie, parents of six boys, explain the Biblical way out—and a better way to turn homeschool wigglers into Christian men!

Ballistic Homeschooling
How not to only live through homeschooling boys, but to love it.   Modern day school culture is very boy-unfriendly and it’s easy to carry that over into our homeschooling because that’s all we know  Have you ever yelled, “Stop it!” to a boy tapping his pencil, wiggling in his seat and humming, only to have him say, “Stop doing my math?” Find out why Thomas Jefferson wrote at a standing desk, how a white board can turn on a light bulb, and why in the world your son does the things he does.  Make school more enjoyable for everyone and equip your boy with the learning he needs for manhood.

Checks & Balances:  Teaching Children to Handle Money Better than the Government Does
Setting our sons on the right financial path is more than helping them find a job—it takes thought and hands-on experience at managing money, understanding economics, and making prudent decisions.  Here are practical suggestions for how to make that happen in your day-to-day life.  Finances are one of the biggest stresses in many marriages, yet we often leave the teaching to chance, hoping our children will figure it out on their own. Get them started right!

Homeschooling a Houseful
Sometimes homeschooling feels like one of those plate-spinning acts and you wonder how in the world you’re going to meet everyone’s needs.  The baby needs to be changed, the toddler is playing in the toilet, your highschooler is impatiently waiting for you to help with his biology experiment, and two other children say, “I can’t do anything else with you, Mom.”  Melanie Young, mother of eight, shares encouragement and ideas for how to keep all of those plates spinning at once without your life spinning out of control.  Learn how to raise independent learners, keep the household moving, and make sure the little ones get enough attention.

Strengthening Your Marriage
Homeschool marriages are breaking up everywhere.  How can this be?  What is wrong when a family at the forefront of the culture war spins apart?  If you homeschool, you know you are in a spiritual battle.  Don’t let your marriage be the weak point in your armor.  Find out about challenges your marriage may face, and how to work it through, not just to stay together, but to find joy and strength in your bond as you mirror the relationship of Christ and the church to your children and the world.

Aiming for College
We’ve all been asked, “But can they get into college?”  The answer is a resounding yes!  Homeschoolers not only get in, but they are often highly recruited and offered scholarships as well!  Come find out how to: choose colleges, make a college visit count, apply for admission and scholarships, demonstrate your record, get financial aid and decide on a college.  Get filled in on all those mystifying things:  ECs, FASFA, PROFILE, ACT, SAT, AP, CC, AND CommonApp.  Melanie & Hal Young served for many years on scholarship committees and have spent the last few years helping their sons and others through the admissions process.  Now they’d like to help you!

Sanity’s in the Freezer: Bulk-cooking to Save Time and Money
Learn how to have real meals on the days your science experiment eats the kitchen!  Don’t worry if you have tried once-a-month cooking and didn’t like spending a whole day in the kitchen.  Melanie didn’t like that either!  Find out how to feed your family well on less money and how to serve great dinners with minimal time in the kitchen.  Convert your favorite recipes to bulk cooking, take shortcuts in meal preparation, and bulk cook even if you have a house full of little ones or can’t spare a day out of your schedule.  There is something in this workshop for everyone—those who love to cook and those who are clueless in the kitchen.

Shining Armor—Your Son’s Battle for Purity (with Hal Young)
Making it through the battle for purity to courting his bride.  Most purity resources these days focus on girls, but purity tends to be a much bigger problem for young men.  Those that are available often seem hopelessly naive about the battles our sons are facing.  How can you teach your boys to protect the girls in their lives, even from themselves?  How can you help them to fight temptation in a world full of inappropriate images?  How can you help them make the transition from “It’s not time to think about that…” to finding a wife?  Come hear the parents of six sons give frank, practical advice on raising your son to be a virtuous knight.

Homeschooled from the Beginning–What to Do When Your Children are Young
You’ve made the decision–your child will be homeschooled from Day One. Good for you! But should you start at a young age? How do you know when to get started and what to do first? Melanie Young has raised precocious readers and late bloomers, but every one of them has benefited from being homeschooled from the beginning. This session can give you a new perspective on how to relax and introduce your little ones to the joy of learning in a gentle and realistic way that will prepare them to succeed academically.

Teaching Discernment (with Hal Young)
No matter how much we avoid it, we’re surrounded by the messages of media, from our computers to songs on the radio. Learn how to teach your children discernment, protect them from being manipulated by the messages around them, and instead to engage their culture for Christ.

Surviving Struggling to Read
What do you do when it’s not that easy? When reading isn’t happening when you thought it would? Melanie and her son, Samuel, who learned to read well at 11, talk about the struggle and give you hope for the future.
