Turning Challenges into Opportunities
Parents of children with disabilities experience many challenges associated with having and teaching a child with learning problems. Negative emotions, lack of support and distorted perspectives can keep us from being effective teachers of our children. In this workshop, Mrs. Hensley will discuss the importance of facing challenges honestly as well as look at how these challenges are actually opportunities placed in our lives by God for our spiritual growth.
Understanding Learning Differences, Difficulties and Disabilities: Part 1
When children are having trouble with academics, it is hard to know whether the child is lazy or learning disabled! Learn which learning differences and difficulties are NOT disabilities, as well as what true Learning Disabilities are and how they impact learning. More severe learing problems such as slow learning, mental retardation and autism will be touched on as to how these disabilities differ from Learning Disabilities.
Understanding Learning Differences, Difficulties and Disabilities: Part 2
Explore how specific perceptual and processing weaknesses impact learning. The difference between remedial and compensation approaches will be discussed as well as teaching methods, curriculum and modifications that best help children who are struggling. Understanding Learning Differences, Difficulties and Disabilities: Part 3 This session wraps up the discussion on how learning difficulties impact learning and allows the audience to ask questions about the specific difficulties their children are having and get some practical ideas and resources.
