Yuck 101 (For parents)
Calling all Parents. come discover your inner-child. Did you sleep through biology in high school? No problem. Come explore and experience the joy of dissection. Get your hands dirty and cast all your fears away. Be encouraged that you can teach your eager learner at home the fun of hands-on science. (Repeat of the student's hands-on lab for parents only.)

Fun With Science
Unit Studies are a fun and interactive way to learn. Unit studies provide an in-depth study on a topic while exploring many areas of the topic, such as geography, science, history, art, etc. It is an immersion experience that your student will see things as a "whole" instead of bits and pieces. Participants will learn the components of designing their own unit studies in the home and obtain a unit study ready to use.

The Beat Goes On

Let's Pick Your Brain
This interactive engaging hands-on workshop will pick your brain and transport you into the fascinating and complex world of brain anatomy and physiology. Developmental Milestones
Ever wish your children came with an instruction manual? The job of parenting has never been more difficult. Every parent worries whether their child is growing and developing normally.  Dr. Callentine puts your fears at ease. As a pediatrician, Dr. Callentine partners with parents in their role as nurturers of the emotional, behavioral, intellectual, and physical growth of their children. She will discuss the typical developmental milestones and how to take advantage of the teachable moments that emerge.  Parents' concerns about development and behavior will be addressed.

Biology And Teaching High School Science
Science offers an opportunity for your child to explore, wonder and learn about our awesome God and the order he has placed in our world. Unfortunately, science is also one of those subjects that many homeschooling parents find extremely intimidating.  Dr. Callentine will help you unpack and address your concerns and give creative options for schooling your high school student or as you prepare for the high school years.

Parental Rights Amendment and the UN Convention Rights of the Child
International law has washed up on our shores via the vessel the UN Convention Rights of the Child.  Dr. Lainna Callentine will describe threats to parental rights and propose a solution that will be the battle of the century for homeschoolers and other pro-family advocates.  The right of parents to direct the upbringing and education of their children should be a fundamental right guaranteed by the United States Constitution but it is only an implied right. It is a looming threat on the fundamental structure and the integrity of the family.

Lung Dissection: It Will Take Your Breath Away (Interactive)

Callentine's Bio

Dr. Lainna Callentine has a great love for teaching.  She is a pediatrician, homeschool mother, and former classroom teacher with a certification in elementary education.  Dr. Callentine received her B.A. from Northwestern University where she studied in the School of Education majoring in Human Development and Social Policy while competing on a full athletic scholarship in basketball.  She is a former 5th grade classroom teacher with a masters degree in education.  She completed her M.D. at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine and trained at Christ Hospital and Medical Center in Oak Lawn, IL.  Dr. Callentine continues to have wonderment for the beauty of God's creation in the human body.  She left formal medicine in the E.R. to stay home and homeschool her three children.  However, she still practices her hobby of medicine at a Christian Clinic in the Chicago suburbs for the uninsured.

Dr. Callentine has taught hands-on science in many different settings and forums.  She has spoken at a large variety of support groups, community organizations, and conventions such as the Illinois Christian Home Educators  .  She is on the board of directors for the ParentalRights.org that is seeking to defend the rights of parents through an amendment to the U.S. constitution.  Dr. Callentine is passionate about the biological sciences, children, education, families, and the God who created all things.

Dr. Callentine has overcome many obstacles in her life and has a passion to motivate and inspire others to  pursue their God-given talents. As a child, Dr. Callentine found her calling in medicine due to health issues, she was  inspired watching the doctors and nurses who cared for her in the hospital. She wanted others to be well also. As an adult, she has discovered that practicing medicine is not just healing the body but healing the spirit. She has eternal hope in that if God has called one to the task of homeschooling He will be faithful in its completion. She helps parents find the resources and understand what is available to help families achieve their full potential.
