The Nuts and Bolts of Testing
The state of Florida requires that each home schooled student receive an annual evaluation to determine progress. There are several ways that this evaluation can be accomplished. One way is by the administration of standardized tests. This workshop discusses the most popular standardized tests. In this discussion, a thorough overview will be given that includes, but not limited to, academic areas that are measured; terminology utilized in the testing and its meaning; and how testing results provide the parents with information that can guide future and present educational planning. Because the testing experience may be viewed as nerve wracking for both parents and students, this workshop is sensitive towards this concern. The presenter also intertwines the workshop with parental questions that may be shared by the general audience, taking the liberty to select those questions that benefit the audience the most while meeting with those parents of specific questions after the workshop as time allows. The goal of this workshop is then to empower the parent with information that supports an understanding of testing and its parts. Thus, the parent will be able to communicate clearly with his/her tester regarding the utilization of a chosen test tool for annual evaluation.
