The Vision of the Homeschool Husband & Dad: Leaving a Legacy
A particular cell phone commercial features an NBA point guard trying to play basketball blindfolded. Because he can't see the goal, he's never sure whether he's scoring. Too often men in our age take on the tasks of husband, father, shepherd, principal, coach, and disciplinarian without the vision necessary to accomplish the goal. (What is the goal, anyway?) In this seminar we will define the goal and discover the divinely appointed means of achieving it. You may even learn the secret to making your wife deliriously happy, your home a quiet and peaceful kingdom, your children rich beyond measure, and your father-in-law in awe of your great accomplishments. Come join us in our discussion of the homeschool husband and dad.

The Reluctant Homeschool Dad
When Zan talked to me about homeschooling the boys back in 1984, I responded with this noble thought: “Well, you can’t mess up a kid too much in kindergarten.” It didn’t take me long to begin embracing the benefits of homeschooling. It’s a lifestyle that allows family life to flourish. It’s a great way to disciple children to love Christ and His Word. Homeschooling allows children to prepare in unique ways for life and career. If you are (or are married to) a skeptical homeschool dad, come hear how God changed my reluctance to a strong conviction that homeschooling is a powerful way to train our children.

Laughter is the Best Medicine: Lessons from a Real Marriage (with his wife, Zan)

In this workshop, join Joe Tyler for a discussion not only on the basics, but the BASIS, of a good marriage. From Genesis to Revelation, marriage is a central focus in Scripture. God even uses the marriage relationship to explain the relationship between Christ and His church. Joe will establish a biblical vision for marriage, consider the roles of husband and wives, discuss the unique pressures that homeschooling places on the marriage, and point out ways to divorce-proof our homes. The world is watching as the daily drama of our family lives play out before them. Let’s make sure that our marriages and families point them to Christ.

Joe's Achievements

•Chairman of the SCAIHS board: South Carolina Association of Independent Home Schools (SCAIHS)

Tyler's Bio

Joe Tyler has worked in Project Management for Information Systems divisions in major SC companies for over 30 years. He and his wife, Zan, have been married for 32 years and have three children who were homeschooled from kindergarten through high school: Ty, 31; John, 29; and Elizabeth 22.

Ty and John have graduated from college and are married to lovely Christian women. Ty is enjoying a successful sales career and John is a lawyer with Sweeny, Wingate & Barrow. Elizabeth graduated from Asbury College in May, 2009, and is currently a news producer at ABC affiliate WCTI in New Bern, NC. The three children attended college on a variety of academic, leadership, athletic (Ty and John), and other scholarships. The Tylers have also been blessed with four amazing grandchildren.

Joe and Zan began homeschooling in 1984, when the state superintendent of education threatened Zan with jail. Since then Joe has been very involved in homeschooling, both through his own family and the homeschool community at large. In 1990, Joe was a founding board member of the South Carolina Association of Independent Home Schools (SCAIHS) and currently serves as the Chairman of the SCAIHS Board. Joe is also the Chairman of the Board for Excelsior Academy—a large, weekly, homeschooling co-op. Joe was a very involved homeschool dad during the course of the Tylers' 21 years of homeschooling. He has served as a PCA elder since 1984 and has taught parenting and marriage Sunday school classes and Bible Studies. He is also in charge of the church's annual Christ and Culture Conference. When Joe's job allows, he enjoys speaking with Zan at homeschooling conferences. In the past few years he has spoken in Japan, Hawaii, and at several other state and local conferences.

My hope is that this list will assist conference organizers in connecting with Joe Tyler and other workshop leaders and speakers. Furthermore, my desire is to help homeschool workshop leaders and speakers develop relationships with more convention planners and audiences. May your efforts be for the glory of Christ and the strengthening of His saints.
