A Lesson in Backyard Games – Get Them Writing, Reading & Playing
Backyard games like “kick the can” and “ghost in the graveyard” are becoming extinct. Yet homeschoolers have a unique understanding about the importance of getting kids out in the backyard, where they can use their imaginations and creativity to have fun. Similar to homeschooling, backyard games allow children of all ages to play together without the comparisons and age restrictions of organized sports and other activities. They learn how to play and communicate with kids of different ages, breaking the age barrier and preparing them for life outside of the classroom. This workshop will introduce parents and educators to new and adventurous lesson plans that get kids writing, reading, and above all, thinking about their favorite backyard games. In particular, the workshop will provide homeschoolers with unique game ideas, tips and year-round inspiration for getting kids out in the backyard, where they can develop skills like creativity and negotiation.
