Psychological Assessments: The 5 W’s
Thinking about psychological assessment can be a daunting task, one that many people have questions about. Many know that it can be helpful but don’t know what it should look like, when it should be done, what information it can provide, etc. Deciphering all the language of a psychological report can feel equally daunting! Becoming and "informed consumer" can help you to get the most out of your child’s assessment and avoid potential pitfalls. This lecture will cover the "5 W’s" of assessment: Why is it needed? What is involved and what do the results mean? When is the best time to do it? Who should do it? Where can I go for information? We will look at the common elements of a psychological or psycho-educational assessment, what other things to consider, what the terminology means, and what questions to ask to help you be an informed consumer.
