Teaching Your Child to Read for Comprehension
You have chosen to homeschool your child to give him the best education possible. Learning to read is foundational for comprehension in all subject areas as well as a lifelong skill as a Christian. How do you teach your child the meaning of letters and their sounds, and teach them to read for comprehension? How do you encourage her to love to read? Come find out the answers to these questions and more!
The Art of Teaching Writing and How To Evaluate It
Are you frustrated with grammar lessons? Is your child bored with English? Teach him to write! Come explore the importance of teaching writing and techniques to make you and your child successful. One of the hardest things about teaching writing is figuring out how to grade it. Do you assign points for completing various steps of the writing process? Does your child know clearly what you expect at every step? Is she motivated to write a clear message or does she think the mechanics of spelling and grammar are all you really care about? Discover practical help to make teaching writing fun and effective.
Math Manipulatives: Making Math Come Alive
Because many students often view math as a set of rules to memorize, they learn to dislike the subject. Students need to be able to utilize their math skills as tools for use in God’s world. This seminar will provide ideas for teaching your student to understand and apply math effectively. The main goal of math instruction is to teach students to be problem solvers and critical thinkers who can apply mathematical ideas to a wide variety of situations. This goal is much different from instruction that relies on an aptitude for memory recall and drill. Teaching for understanding as a primary goal for your math instruction may require changes in your organization and teaching of math.
