College Decisions--Spiritual, Social, and Financial Considerations
As parents, we did not follow the wisdom of the world in choosing to homeschool our children. We need to be just as discerning and diligent not to follow the wisdom of the world in the area of post high school education. And we need to be preparing ourselves and our children well before the time that decisions need to be made. How do we guide our children in deciding if college is right for them, and if so, determine what major, what college, what living arrangements, and how to pay for it? And how do we as parents continue to guide and protect them during this time, toward the final goal of becoming independently dependent upon the Lord? The answers to these questions are inter-related. And since our children are all unique, and our families are all unique, the answers will be unique to some degree.

Mike and Dixie Uhl have been married 31 years and have seven children and one grandchild. They have been members of MPE since 1987, and are currently serving on the board of directors. Their children were all homeschooled from preschool through high school graduation. The youngest are twins who graduated in 2011. Three children have completed Bachelor degrees, with one having returned to school for a graduate degree program. Two have completed Associate degrees. The twins are currently attending Johnson County Community College. Two of their children got married in 2010, and one in 2011.
