Cory Beard is an associate professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He has his Ph.D. from the University of Kansas and Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Missouri Columbia. He is active in research using wireless communications to help respond to disaster situations.

Cory and his wife Michelle have homeschooled their two boys, Ryan and Jonathan, who are 15 and 11. They are active in Life Spring Church in Spring Hill, KS, where Cory teaches Sunday School to children and adults and helps lead men’s discipleship groups. Homeschooling father and UMKC Computing and Engineering professor Cory Beard will share important information and answer questions about how to be successful in college. He will address issues about admissions for homeschooled students, why homeschooled students are highly respected by many professors, choosing a major, engineering and computer science degree programs, and the benefits and possible pitfalls of transferring credit between institutions. He will talk about important life issues such as where to live and how it affects student success, working while going to school, important tips on getting started at a university, finding a good faculty mentor, and the vital importance of walking with God as a student in active Christian fellowship.
