“What on Earth are my Kids Doing to my Grandkids!?”
Every grandparent has a multitude of questions, fears or joys when their children announce they will be homeschooling the grandchildren. And most parents wonder how they are ever going to explain this “homeschooling thing” to their own parents. This workshop will tackle the major questions, with time for a Q&A.
“What’s a Grandparent to Do?” [Engaging Grandparents in homeschooling]
Everyone knows that grandparents read to their grandchildren, bake cookies with them, take them on outings and even email and Facebook them. But how can grandparents help educate them? You may be surprised to discover what “education” is and what it is not. Whether you’re a parent or a grandparent, get set to learn a wealth of creative ideas for incorporating grandparents into the children’s education — in person or long-distance. Your entire family can benefit not only from the help, but from the wisdom and special skills that God has equipped this generation to impart to future generations.

Rich and Barb Heki are the founders and directors of Grandparents of Homeschoolers. As homeschool veterans and grandparents, they are delighted to serve and participate in the wonderful world of grandparenting!
Having homeschooled their four children from birth to adulthood, the Hekis have served as state homeschooling leaders, working with other national leaders, for more than a decade. During these years, they have written articles, orchestrated events, spoken at conferences, served support groups, worked on homeschooling legislation, and counseled and encouraged homeschoolers one-on-one. The Hekis have always ministered together as a family, with their children taking on integral roles of leadership and service from youth through adulthood. As advocates of multi-generational family discipleship —because education IS discipleship — they are excited to be ministering to grandparents of homeschoolers, connecting the generations through home education.
Rich and Barb are graduates of Drake University and have volunteered in various Christian ministry leadership capacities for 35+ years. They are passionate defenders of parental rights and homeschooling freedoms, encouraging families to seek God's direction in every aspect of their homeschool journey. They view education as a lifestyle, believing that if we teach children HOW to learn, how to LOVE learning, and how to follow GOD's direction in their lives, they will experience what true success really is.
As founding directors of Grandparents of Homeschoolers, the Hekis’ mission is to encourage, inspire and equip grandparents to support, engage in and delight in the home-education adventure of their grandchildren.
