In this presentation, the focus will be on classroom productivity and functional academic independence. Such technology has dramatically changed the game for children with special needs. Emphasis will be given on how to complete worksheets, journals and other assignments. Other areas include accessing curriculum materials and textbooks, as well as modifying and adapting educational activities. Features of the iPad will be discussed, especially in terms of organization and accessibility. The overall focus of this presentation is using the iPad as an effective and productive tool.

Nicole Weckherlin, OTR/L is a licensed and registered occupational therapist currently working in the Cerebral Palsy Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. The CP Center provides the comprehensive services of a pediatric neurologist, nurse practitioner, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, orthotists and seating and mobility specialists. While Nicole provides OT consultation in a variety of areas including upper extremity function, ADLs, assistive technology, sensory integration, splinting, adaptive equipment and school issues, these last few years have evolved into making her primary focus the iPad and how it can be an effective and productive classroom tool.
Prior to joining the CP Center in 2010, Nicole worked for 13 years in the school setting.
