Is your child’s mind a million miles from your lesson? Learn how to change your homeschool to curb distractibility, help your child improve his or her focusing power, and make your homeschool more friendly to that wandering mind, without building a 3-ring circus. Veteran homeschooler and author Kathy Kuhl also discusses related character issues, and how to teach if you’re distractible.

*Raising Never-Give-Up Kids (50 minutes)

How do you nurture resilience, so your kids can discipline themselves, not to quit in adversity? How do you encourage them toward a realistic view of themselves, and help them better handle emotions and relationships? Is your child struggling in one or more academic areas? Kathy Kuhl, the author of Encouraging Your Child, shares lessons for everyone, based on her research and experience with homeschooled students with learning problems.

Staying Sane as You Homeschool (50 minutes)

Losing the joy of learning? Veteran homeschooling mom Kathy Kuhl shares common sense Biblical strategies—and tips from parents who homeschool children with disabilities—to help you take care of yourself, be a better teacher, parent, and spouse, and have a happier, healthier family.

When Writing Doesn’t Come Easily (50 minutes)

Does your child struggle to write, to form letters, or to compose a clear paragraph or an essay? Learn about causes of writing problems, handwriting tips, and accommodations for problems with handwriting, memory, organization, spelling and vocabulary. Kathy Kuhl homeschooled her dysgraphic son (who loves to write), taught composition and English, and has written three books.

Workshops for Christian Women's Retreats

All are 45 minutes. Small group questions, personal reflection questions, etc. available on request:

Reasons for Hope

Hope is the least talked about of the "faith, hope, and love." What reasons do Christians have to be hopeful? What grounds do we have? What are the benefits of nurturing a hopeful heart?

Guarding our Hope

Our hope is assaulted many ways: from within and without. How do we avoid quenching our hope? How can we guard and build hearts full of hope and confidence in God? How do we encourage others to grow more hopeful?

Math workshops, all 50 minutes:

Algebra: Hands-on Makes Functions Meaningful

In this hands-on workshop, learn and practice strategies to help your child grasp how functions work, what they’re good for, and how to solve them. Great for kids (and parents) who hate algebra or don’t see what good it is.

Fractions, Decimals, & Percentages: Hands-on Methods for Mastery

Fractions, decimals, and percentages are topics where many students struggle with math. These core skills enable students to proceed to algebra and higher math. Veteran homeschooler and math teacher Kathy Kuhl shares and lets you try multisensory strategies you can incorporate into any math curriculum.

Teaching Integers: Multisensory Methods Help

Is your child confused by signs? Are you? These core skills prepare us for algebra and higher math. Learn how to explain why negative + negative = negative, yet negative times negative = positive, and more. Explore multisensory methods to help your kids master integers, with homeschooler and math teacher Kathy Kuhl.

Teaching Word Problems: Conquering Distance-Rate-and-Time

Word problems woes? Applying math to real life is a neglected skill, which can leave us and our kids puzzled or petrified. Kuhl's Bio

A former public school teacher, I thought my teaching career was over when my children were born! After homeschooling a bright, learning disabled son for grades 4 to 12, I now enjoy writing, speaking, teaching and consulting. I enjoy reading, traveling, hiking, and good conversation with friends.

God's mercy transforms and blesses my life daily. My husband and I are members of New Hope Presbyterian Church in Fairfax, VA, where he is a ruling elder. We have two terrific grown children, and three grandchildren.
