Algebra Concepts taught in Arithmetic & Pre-Algebra Classes
Algebra is being taught earlier and earlier in the public schools. Some curriculum promote “preparing for Algebra” as early as 2nd grade. Many of these curriculum use an “arithmetic” method of thinking which hinders children from progressing into “algebraic” thinking. While the arithmetic thinking gets correct answers on simple problems, it doesn’t go very far in creating a true understanding. Learn the core concepts and how to teach algebraic thinking.
Math Basics: Percents, Ratios, Unit Conversions
Many kids and moms don’t get percents. Percents, ratios, measuring and unit conversions are the last of the core math topics to master before algebra. Brush up on your own skills while learning to teach these concepts.
